Shenzhen Mindray Bio-medical Electronics Company Ltd, a Chinese medical enterprise, in collaboration with their Ghanaian partner, Medpoint Solutions, has donated Ultrasound Imaging Equipment worth Sixty-Three Thousand dollars ($63,000) to the Department of Medical Diagnostics of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. The equipment, namely Portable Machine DP-10 and Cart-based DC-30 Full HD was presented on Tuesday, 21st February 2023.
Dr. Yaw Amo Wiafe of the Department of Medical Diagnostics explained that the benefactors signed a Memorandum of Understanding with KNUST to provide up-to-date skills in the advancement field of Medical Ultrasound, thus, the donation was in line with the agreement.

The Manager of Mindray Sales Department, Mr. Joseph Xing, indicated that his company, being a medical enterprise in China, decided to collaborate with the best university in Ghana to train students to bring better and more affordable healthcare to West Africa. He, therefore, urged the students to utilise the equipment and make it worthwhile. He hoped that the ultrasound equipment is used for its intended purpose to impart invaluable knowledge and related skills to all students.
Mr. Clifford Kekeshie of Medpoint Solutions affirmed their interest in investing in the training of educators, hence, he expressed the need to set up a resource centre with the sole purpose of providing hands-on training for students. In return, he expects the staff and students to become ambassadors of Medpoint Diagnostics to promote their ultrasound machines to the world. He announced Mindray's intention to support the Department with academic exchange programmes for both staff and students.

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Christan Agyare expressed hope that this kind gesture would invite other industries on board to help train students. He thanked Mindray for donating the equipment considering the current global economic challenges. He appealed to other industry leaders to support faculty in the training of professionals for the globe.
The Head of Department, Professor Alexander Debrah, appreciated them for coming on board and urged the students to purchase Mindray's products and recommend them when they become practitioners. He also appealed to Mindray to collaborate with KNUST to undertake joint research.
